After our humiliation at Pittodrie midweek, it is vital that we respond as best as we can. Today sees us travel north to visit Motherwell, who will be hurting after their last minute 4-3 defeat to Celtic at the weekend.

It’s a crucial game, as if we win then we will remain in the top 6. Lose however, and we could see ourselves slip down quite a bit if other results don’t go our way.

The last time we played Motherwell was at Rugby Park on the opening day of the season, where we lost narrowly thanks in part to that chip from Lionel Ainsworth. Hopefully there is a better result today from what is likely to be a good travelling support.

If we’re to return to Ayrshire with all three points today the defence must keep a close eye on two of the home side’s biggest threats.

Louis Moult is a huge talent and is extremely threatening going forward. His pace could cause the centre backs plenty of problems, especially as Boyd and Boyle/Burn aren’t the speediest defenders in the league. They will have to stay close to him at all times, even double marking him if necessary.

Another of their danger men is someone I’ve already mentioned above, Lionel Ainsworth. His speed and trickery is hard to defend against, and young Greg Taylor will have to be on top form to deal with that threat.

We seem to have a bad habit of giving away penalties at Fir Park, so we’ll just have to see what happens today.

Top 6 here we come! … I hope
