Pre season friendlies in football are always a strange experience, trying to work out who your team are playing, who plays for them, and even who is playing for your own team that you don’t yet recognise.
This year, we kick off our pre season with a match at home against Livingston. This should be a good test in preparation for the coming season, by welcoming a newly promoted championship side eager to seal their return to the premiership in the coming years.
The team from the Toni Macaroni Stadium stormed to the league 1 title last year, finishing 19 full points above Alloa in second. They have a very strong team heading into the season, and will be looking to come to Rugby Park and put on a good showing. In the past week, Livi have already faced premiership opposition in Hearts and Motherwell, narrowly losing by one and two goals respectively. As well as the game against us, they also have a glamour friendly against Sunderland coming up.
Last season, Livi had a very strong team, including former Ross County winger Raffaele de Vita and previous Rugby Park ‘dangerman’ Dale Carrick. And just yesterday, the club announced the signing of former Rangers and Hearts goalie Neil Alexander. This is a fantastic signing for Livi to help them try to survive the championship in their first season back.
So although Livingston are a new championship team, they will still provide a stern test in our first game back as we gear up for the huge clash at Somerset Park.
